Red beets get their beautiful color from a pigment called Betalain, these are also antioxidants that hold many beneficial effects such as lowering oxidative stress, having a detox effect on the body and improves athletic performance. Yes, you can for sure turn up the beat with beets! 

Among these amazing health benefits, there may be some things about them you didn’t know but may have heard of: 

  1. Beets might turn your pee and poo red. This might not happen for everyone though, but either way, it isn’t harmful. The pigment is so strong it excretes out with your body fluids, staining it to make it a little extra special.

  2. The juice of the beet is one of the best dietary sources of antioxidants and nitrates, these are good components when it comes to improving your blood flow throughout your brain, heart and your muscles.

  3. If you buy beets with their greens on, make sure to cut them off (and eat them!) or they’ll draw the moisture from the beetroot.

  4. It is said that beets can beat your hangover. The antioxidants help to speed up the detox process in your liver, making it easier for your body to flush out the harmful substances faster.

  5. It stains, everything. Well, this one you maybe knew, but you can use this natural stain when dying Easter eggs or even dying your hair.

  6. Bonus: rub your hands with lemon juice and salt before washing them with water and soap to easier get the stain off.
